Friends

Monday, October 9th, 2006

I seem to attract the oddest bunch of people as my friends. I also seem to have a fair share of incredibly boring friends, but I think (I hope?) that’s because I am nicer to them than anyone else, and so they cling to me like shit to Madam’s hindquarters!

Take L for example. She is Nice. Nice with a capital ‘N’. But she bores me to death. She can spend a whole lunch hour telling me about the new process in place for booking hotels. Even that wouldn’t be so bad if she hadn’t spent the last 2 lunches we spent together telling me the same thing.

She is also getting treated pretty shittily at work. I do did feel sorry for her. At least the first time she told me. Even the second time, for a short while. But every time, she asks me what I think she should do. I tell her what I would do in her position. She does nothing. Nothing but moan to me about it. I am losing patience - if she won’t fucking do anything to improve the situation, then live with it. I really can’t be doing with people who spend their whole life moaning about things, but can’t be bothered to change anything.

Then there is X, who I am grateful to for getting my on my exercise kick at the moment. But we go to a class twice a week, and have been for about 5 weeks, and there hasn’t been one single time when she hasn’t forgotten something. A couple of times (in fact it might have been 3) she has had to borrow my (spare) socks. Now once isn’t so bad. But I mean - if I can think to throw in a spare pair of socks in my bag, why can’t she keep a spare pair in hers?

A bottle of water is another common one. There have been several times she has forgotten water. And ends up drinking half of mine. Apart from the one time she forgot, and made me 5 minutes late for the class while she went to buy a bottle from a shop on the way there.

Twice now we have had to go back to the office, after the 10 minutes walk to the car, so she can pick up her bag which she left at her desk.

Three times I have had to pay for her, because she didn’t have enough money.

Today she surpassed herself. She said she’d meet me there, because she had forgotten her gym pass. Her boyfriend took her home to get it, and then took her to the gym. She turned up 10 minutes late.

And of course. She had no water.

AAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!

Lucky Escape

Today, ONB got married. The reception was quite a way from here, so I drove. On the way, my phone, buried deep in my handbag, started to ring. And, as it does (I haven’t figured out how to change it), when someone leaves me a voice message, the voice mail rings me, at 1 minute intervals, a further 3 times. And then sends a text message.

Obviously, the good little driver that I am, I didn’t answer it, until I was parked up outside the hotel. I listened, and it was S, asking me if I wanted a lift to the wedding reception. I was just scrolling through my contacts, when a car pulled up next to me, and in was S, and T who she had given a lift to. I could see her also looking at her phone, obviously not spotted who she had parked next to (how could she have missed my car?) I got out, and waved through the window.

We had a chuckle about it, I put my phone in to my bag, and off we went to the wedding.

Fast forward to time at the bar, gentlemen, please. As we are standing up and gathering our things, it suddenly hits me. I can’t remember putting my car keys in my bag. I open the pocket which has the phone in it. No keys. I open the other pocket I sometimes use. No keys. I end up emptying my bag onto one of the tables (and my bag is a Tardis, it holds hundreds and hundreds of uselessful objects. The whole lot strewn over the table. But no keys.

I go into the bar, where the table full of presents is. I dig around, find the carrier bag with my present in it. I empty that onto another table. No keys.

Now, I am going over what happened when I parked up. And I know. I just know. I have left my keys in the car. I can’t remember locking the car. I can’t remember even holding my keys.

I rush out into the car park.

There sits my car, glowing under the full moon. I walk up to it. I open the door.

I remove my keys from the ignition.

I am glad ONB had his wedding reception in the middle of nowhere, and not the middle of town!

Exhausted

Monday, October 2nd, 2006

Just got back from my Monday night exertions. Monday is aerobics and then yoga. I feel exhausted, but also not very sleepy - in fact last week I could hardly sleep because all my insides seemed to be just hot.

Oh well.

Also just tried to ring and renew my insurance - why am I so rubbish at this? It runs out tomorrow, and I have had the renewal notice for weeks, but I just haven’t got around to ringing them up. And of course the call centre closed at 8 o’clock. I know I could renew it online, but then I won’t get my staff discount, which at 20% is not to be sniffed at!

I was the same with my car tax - only renewed that online on Friday night, so the disc hasn’t turned up yet, and I shouldn’t be driving my car.

And it seems there was a little bit of shennanigans in the area last night - if this had been any closer, it’d be in my back garden!
