I forsee a dilemma
Monday, December 3rd, 2007Had a job interview on Friday (after having hair dyed all purple - well, it’s got to be better than the white and purple it already was, at least it’s all one colour now) for a locally based company.
To be honest, I am not entirely sure I want the job - it is more like the job I had before this one, but it’s local, and possibly paying me a few thousand more than I am on now. And it get’s me away from the tight arsed bastards I am currently working for.
I heard today that it went well, and I am going to have another ‘interview’ with the ‘head of department’ next Monday. This is the guy I used to work with. I am not expecting a very technical interview.
But. Also last week I went to a seminar with a consultancy firm. They are actively recruiting for people. I gave them my CV, and the director seemed very interesting. This will be a much more interesting job, more in line with what I am doing now, only in a consultancy role for other companies. It will involve some travelling, but not big time from what I gather. Only problem is it will mean I have to move.
And of course, they’ve not contacted me yet either.
I am also probably going to have a telephone interview with another consultancy firm some time this week. These are based in London, which would mean I’d expect a large pay rise.
Then today I had a one to one with my boss. I told him I had accepted the invitation to present in America, and would pay for it myself. I said I was extremely disappointed that my company hadn’t even offered to pay for just one of us, or seemed prepared to meet us half way on it. They will, however, pay for W to go on a training course which costs almost £2,500, plus travel and accomodation and food on top, because this is less than the cost of some of the professional qualifications others in the department undertake.
My boss seemed shocked I was prepared to pay for it. And says he will go back to his boss, and talk it over again. He has also suggested that I won’t need to take holiday for it, and that he might possibly be able to cover some of the expenses “under the radar”…..
Not sure what I will do. If they will pay for some if it, then at least it’s a partial victory. I don’t know what I will do, should I get a job offer to oppose this.
*sigh* what a dilemma? It’s nice to be so wanted!
