Weekly catchup
It’s time for my weekly catchup. This working away from home lark is a bit strange - I do have internet access at work, but I don’t want to be looking at blogs while there, just in case they pick up on it.
Next week I start ‘proper’ work, rather than hanging around the office reading manuals and playing with software installation. The biggest advantage is that it will be working at a place about 5 miles from my home - probably closer than my old job used to be. The even bigger plus is that I will get mileage, plus breakfast and lunch paid for on expenses. I could probably get dinner too, but I think that will be pushing it. However, I will be working with someone else, shadowing them for the first two weeks, so I am sure we will go out for dinner a few times, care of Uncle D!
The last two weeks I have actually been staying at the office. They have a bedroom there for the odd occasion when people need to stay over, and they offered to let me stay there. Weigh that up against £150 for a B&B, and I jumped at it! It was a bit weird, and it was a bit scary the first couple of nights, because it is an old farmhouse in the middle of nowhere, so it is dark, and creepy, and the old building makes lots of noises. But once I was used to it, it was fine. The strangest thing was it doesn’t have a bathroom en suite, so I had to have a shower in the toilet which is just off reception. Obviously I didn’t want to get caught wandering through reception dressed just in a towel, so I had my shower of a night rather than the morning.
Tomorrow I am going on what is possibly the geekiest date ever, with FKM. We are off the Bletchley Park, to look at enigma machines, and old computers. I am very excited about it.
And you lot are unbelievable - such a tit obsession!
