I should be in Milan
I should have gone to see LELI yesterday. But my cold has moved to my ears, and I really didn’t want to be flying.
So, in this very nice, warm, sunny weather we’ve been having I have been sat in the house feeling sorry for myself.
I have been making lots of cards - it’s very therapeutic somehow. However, I now have 4 big boxfuls of cards, and no idea what to do with them.
Well, I do have some idea. I think I am going to buy some nice boxes, and put 10 or so cards into a box, and try and sell them for a very reasonable price. However, I can’t decide what is reasonable at the moment. I think £1 a card is very reasonable for a handcrafted card, but I am not sure that people will want to pay £10 for a box. However, I can put in some very cheap and fast cards, as well as the much nicer, takes an hour to make one of them cards. I also want to sell Christmas cards - which will not sell for anywhere near that price, not when people can buy a box of 20 for £2.50. However, again I can make some very cheaply and quickly, so am thinking of maybe selling 10 for £2, with 50p going to charity.
Now I have to find some boxes. My friend N in New York pointed me at a company in California, who are selling exactly what I want at a very reasonable price (50 boxes, with clear lids for $50). However, they don’t ship outside North America. I have got into an email fight with them, because this is just stupid. I thought the Yanks on the outside of the country were a little more open to the idea that there existed a world outside their borders?
I could have them sent to N, who would then send them on, but this means paying for postage twice, plus I will have to pay import duty on them.
I have found a company in the UK who sell something similar, but we are talking £50 instead of $50. But given how much less hassle it will be, plus will be quicker to get them, plus it means less money going to a stupid company who think in the current economic climate that turning away business is good.
